We live in a time where environmentally sustainable and eco-friendly products are increasingly becoming a priority – everything from recycled packaging to reducing the use of single-use plastics. Effective, eco-friendly household products are more crucial than ever. It’s easy to recycle packaging, just pop it in the recycling bin outside or those big bins that you see at the supermarkets, but what about all those cleaning products under your sink? Well, Greensheets eco-friendly laundry sheets promises to offer not only a powerful cleaning solution but also a commitment to preserving the environment. I am very fussy about what laundry detergents I use, but had the opportunity to try out the GreenSheets eco-friendly laundry sheets, here’s what I think about them.
When it comes to washing our clothes we all have our preferred laundry products. It could be we like the smell, the price, or don’t react to chemicals in the products. Whatever the reason we choose and stick with our favourite brands, they all come in bulky packaging – they could be in the form of pods, liquid or powder. Now there is a new player in town, GreenSheets from The Green Co. So what are GreenSheets? GreenSheets are eco-friendly laundry detergent and fabric conditioner in sheet form, that come in biodegradable pouches and are completely plastic-free, perfect for reducing household waste and without sacrificing cleaning power.
Biodegradable pouches, no plastic and no bulky packaging are not GreenSheets only eco-friendly credentials. The detergent is formulated using plant-based ingredients and promises to be free from harsh chemicals like phosphates, optical brighteners, and artificial fragrances.
These laundry sheets are very eco and Vegan-friendly and sustainable, highly concentrated and non-bio, making them a great choice for environmentally conscious consumers. They are certified vegan and GMO-free, ensuring that no animals were harmed in their production, available in 3 different fragrances (Fresh Linen, Lavender and Fragrance Free) and are perfect for people with sensitive skin as they are all hypoallergenic approved. They are suitable for all wash cycles: hot, cold, woollens and delicates.
Let’s start with the packaging. GreenSheets have opted for a minimalist yet elegant design, using recyclable materials to further promote their eco-friendly ethos. The detergent comes in a sleek, slim and compact container that is easy to store (taking up far less space in the cupboard than bulky plastic bottles and large cardboard boxes), reducing plastic waste significantly compared to traditional detergents.
My first impression of the laundry sheets themselves was that they reminded me of wetwipes, albeit dry ones. Now I am not a chemist but the components have an emphasis on plant-based components.
- Organic Dodecyl Salt
- Palm-Free Decyl Glucoside
- Water
- Coconut Oil Derivative (Cocoamidopropyl Betaine)
- Glycerol
- Polyvinyl Alcohol
- Trisodium Citrate
- Parfums (Fragrance – except for the fragrance free option)
Given the absence of harmful chemicals they ensure that the detergent is not only safe for your clothes and skin but also for the environment. As they are biodegradable, they break down naturally without leaving harmful residues. You can read a more detailed description of each ingredient on The Green Co. website.
Using them is as easy as throwing a pod in the machine, and easier than having to measure out liquid or powder – each sheet is already pre-measured with detergent / conditioner. Simply pop a detergent sheet out of the pack, pop it into the drum of your washing machine (you can also add a conditioner sheet if you want), and throw in your dirty clothes. These sheets work on all wash cycles, including hot, cold, woollens, and delicates. They are also suitable for handwashing, making them a versatile addition to your laundry arsenal. Wash on your normal cycle.
While all the eco credentials sound great, the most important question is do they work? The simple answer is yes! With one detergent sheet and one conditioner sheet in the wash my clothes came out just as clean and soft as with my regular laundry detergent.
Now I am so used to the artificial smell of my regular detergent that I was a bit disappointed with the fragrance of the GreenSheets. The fragrance wasn’t as noticeable as with my regular laundry products. As many people would be accustomed to the strong, lingering fragrances it can be a bit of a shock – this is normal. GreenSheets have been made intentionally different. They are formulated with naturally derived essential oils to provide a gentle, subtle scent that won’t overpower or clash with perfumes or other products you might use. The washing does come out clean and smells clean, it really is just a case of getting accustomed to a new smell.
The goal of GreenSheets is to leave your laundry fresh and clean in a lighter, more natural and eco-friendly way. This is especially important for those with sensitive skin, as strong synthetic fragrances can often be irritating. If you want to boost the smell some users like to a few drops of their favourite essential oils directly to their wash for an extra personal touch of fragrance.

Overall, GreenSheets laundry products are perfect for those that want clean clothes while looking after the environment. They do their job and get clothes clean. Although I found the fragrance to be not very noticeable, which will suit a lot of people, that really is just personal preference and being conditioned to associate a stronger artificial smell with clean clothes, but my clothes were perfectly clean and soft. Once I get used to the new smell it probably won’t be an issue.
Now for the slight downside – cost. Being environmentally friendly and eco-conscious tends to be slightly more expensive. The detergent in a 64 pack costs £12.95, while a 128 load pack is £28.95 – including postage. The conditioner sheets cost £9.95/£18.95. This is pricier than your standard laundry products. If just using the detergent sheets, a wash load will cost from as little as 19p-24p per wash depending on what pack size you buy or if you take the subscribe and save option. The fabric conditioner costs from 12-16p per wash, again depending on purchase options. When using detergent and conditioner together a wash will cost from 31p to 40p, which compared to my regular products is slightly more expensive (mine currently works out as approx. 29p per wash). The GreenSheets cost does include postage if buying direct from the website and is a much eco-friendlier alternative and still makes them very affordable. Although do note, if you live in hard water areas you may have to use 2 detergent sheets per wash (as advised by The Green Co.), so will increase the cost per wash. Considering the effectiveness and environmental benefits, I think that the slightly higher price is justified.
If you’re ready to make a positive change in your laundry habits and the environment then give GreenSheets a try – you can try a 4 load sample pack for just 95p per pack, it must be worth a try to see for yourself – your clothes, and the environment, will thank you!
Kick off your Spring Cleaning in an environmentally friendly way with GreenSheets laundry sheets.
