Kitchen Towel

Since COVID, more people are more germ conscious. But germs are everywhere and you are never going to avoid them. Just touching a door handle will see the transfer of bacteria from one person to another – door handles love to harbour germs and pass them along. And not to alarm you, but more germs are to be found in your kitchen than in the toilet/bathroom! Good hygiene and hand-washing practices can help eliminate the germs. Speaking of washing, when you wash your hands and dishes, they need drying and the towel you use can be a nice and cosy home for millions of germs, spreading from the towel to your hands and dishes and beyond. None of us are going to stop drying our hands or dishes and we certainly can’t spend every minute of the day worrying about where the next batch of germs are coming from but there are things we can do to help alleviate the spread of germs without even being aware, such as changing your kitchen towel for a copper-infused one from Copper Clothing.

Copper Clothing’s Copper-Infused Anti-Microbial Kitchen Towels are made from 100% copper-infused cotton with 280 GSM thick material for super absorption. The copper elements of the towel give it anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and self-cleaning properties as well as reducing the odour you would find on ordinary towels after a few uses, helping to kill of any bacteria found in towels and stop the transference to hands and dishes. The towel is a white cotton with a good thickness and weight, accented with grey stitching in a square pattern to give the towel a pleasing look that will fit in with any kitchen, it measures 73x48cm.

The copper is infused with the cotton of the towel, you can’t see or feel it and the towel feels super soft and is very absorbent. But having the copper within the fibres of the towel has some very good benefits:

  • High Absorbency: Made with 280 GSM pure cotton fabric and infused with copper, allowing high absorption and fast drying to cut out bacterial and fungal growth.
  • Eco-Friendly/Natural Fabric: Infused with the goodness of copper oxide, the copper content inside not only eliminates the growth of germs but also prevents pathogen growth on the towel.
  • Self-Sustainable: Copper ions are known to possess self-cleaning properties and help destroy bacteria like E. Coli, S. Aureus, and MRSA by 99.99%, reducing the need to wash it often. This means less laundry, less water wastage, and happy earth!
  • Anti-Odour: Copper destroys odour-producing fungi and bacteria, keeping your kitchen towel odour-free for longer.
  • Light Weight: Copper-infused fabric has fast drying and high-absorbent properties, making it perfect for daily use in the kitchen and other places!
  • Anti-Microbial: Lab tests revealed that copper ions are known to destroy bacteria like MRSA, E. Coli, and S. Aureus by 99.99%, providing anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-microbial qualities on the contact surfaces.
  • Completely Durable: According to the AATCC lab reports, copper ions do not wash out even after 50 washes and are more likely to last a lifetime, unlike regular towels.
Kitchen Towel

Overall, I think that this kitchen towel is excellent. I have been using the Copper Clothing Copper-Infused Anti-Microbial Kitchen Hand Towel for a while now for drying dishes and my hands. After a week of use, the towel doesn’t have that musty smell you usually find on towels when you use them daily. Bacteria causes that odour that you usually find, and whilst I am not a scientist, the copper-infusion does seem to be stopping the smell so I can only assume that it is killing off the bacteria that would be found on standard kitchen towels. As a kitchen towel, it does its job superbly. It dries dishes and hands very well; it is very absorbent and dries quickly when put on the towel rack. There is no musty smell, unlike with the thinner cotton tea towels I use, and I found that I don’t need to replace and wash the towel as often.

For those that are wondering about how safe having metal infused into the towel is, the copper-infusion is completely safe and is chemical-fee. Copper has been used for hundreds of years and is well-known for its health benefits, including to purify water and prevent infections. Copper ions penetrate bacterial cells and inhibit their respiration. Bad for bacteria, but good for us.

Using copper-infused towels is a fantastic way to incorporate the benefits of copper into your daily life without having to do anything apart from the washing up or just drying your hands after washing them. Copper is an eco-friendly, natural metal infused with fabric – the goodness of the copper oxide helps to eliminate the growth of bacteria and odour, giving the towel self-cleansing properties. This leaves the towel feeling fresh, clean and odour-free. It’s also highly absorbent and very fast-drying, making it perfect for daily use in the kitchen for dishes, hands and worktops.

I mentioned that the towel has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and self-cleaning properties, that doesn’t mean that you don’t need to wash it – just not as often as a standard kitchen towel. I wash it on a 30 degree wash and each time it comes out still feeling soft and looking good as good as new. As mentioned earlier, according to the AATCC (American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists) lab reports, copper ions do not wash out even after 50 washes and are more likely to last a lifetime, unlike regular towels.

With a retail price of £9.99 for one towel, it may be considered expensive. Taking it at face value of just be a kitchen towel, yes it probably is. But after using it I believe it is value for money. It feels and looks high quality with its thick cotton material, it dries well and is odourless, even after a week of drying dishes and hands. It doesn’t need washing or changing as often so will last a lot longer, so in the long run it will be much better value for money whilst reducing or eliminating germs that towels create. And with less germs on kitchen towels it will create less germs in the kitchen and be better for our health as well.

I think that the Copper Clothing kitchen towel is an excellent towel, something that we take for granted but something that can help stop the spread of germs.
