We all lead busy lives, and we all need a good night’s sleep to recharge our minds and bodies. A good night’s sleep is as important for good health as a healthy diet and regular exercise. Good restful sleep improves brain performance, mood, and overall health. But a good night’s sleep can be hard to come by if you don’t have a good sleep routine, quality mattress and a supportive, comfortable pillow. The NHS recommends that on average adults generally need between 7-9 hours of sleep per night, children 9-13 hours, babies and toddlers 12-17 hours.
Not getting enough quality sleep on a regular basis not only leaves you tired and irritable but raises the risk of many diseases and disorders, from heart disease and stroke to obesity and dementia.
A good night’s sleep requires good ‘sleep hygiene’. But what is good sleep hygiene? It is more than just changing the bedding. Good sleep hygiene includes routine and keeping regular sleep hours – going to bed at around the same time every night and getting up around the same time every morning– yes, even on weekends (and it does work). It also involves not eating before going to bed, or in bed, watching television in bed or playing with your phone and tablet etc. Try reading a book before going to sleep.
A good night’s sleep is essential for good health, a restful mind and recharged body. It helps to regulate your body clock and has many health benefits including a better memory, better concentration and better productivity. A bad night’s sleep can make you more tired, irritable, slow you down, mood swings and in my case waking up with migraine headaches.
I have a good quality comfortable mattress and I do tend to go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time every morning (so much so that I don’t even need my alarm clock anymore). But the thing that made the biggest difference for me was changing my pillow. Over the years I have tried lots of different pillows; cheap ones, expensive one, feather ones, memory foam ones, bounce back pillows (that stop bouncing back), firm pillows, soft pillows, different fillings, even one that had a plastic insert in! I don’t know what I do to them whilst sleeping but I tend to ruin them quite quickly. It was getting to the point that I was changing my pillow every few months or so (rather than the recommended 18 months to 2 years) either because they lost their shape or were just really uncomfortable.
I suffer with migraines and headaches and the one thing that has really worked for me to reduce waking up with a migraine is a better, more supportive pillow. Pillows are just not about firmness levels and depending on how you sleep, back or side sleeper, determines what type of pillow you need. After trying lots of pillows and was advised to try a firm gusseted pillow (walled pillow). One that was recommended to me was the OTTY Deluxe Pillow, and it worked! It is definitely the best pillow I have used to date, and it does help with a more restful and relaxed sleep and helps manage my migraines as well.
The OTTY Deluxe Pure Pillow is a hypoallergenic, temperature regulating, anti-bacterial, bamboo, memory foam pillow. It even eliminates odours and wicks away moisture and has machine washable covers. Suitable for side or back sleepers, based on the density of the memory foam, and helps to better support your head, neck and shoulders for a better night’s sleep.
This pillow is quite heavy and firm and when it arrived, I didn’t think that it would be conducive for a good night’s sleep. Never judge a book, or pillow, by its cover! Thankfully I couldn’t have been more wrong. My head, neck and shoulders are much better supported. I have been using the pillow long enough for it to be ruined by my heavy head but unlike all my other pillows, it has kept its shape perfectly.
This is a comfortable pillow to sleep on and moulds to the head and neck; it’s medium-firm so not too soft or too firm and is extremely supportive for my head, neck and shoulders and stops me waking with aches, pains and headaches. Sleeping on this pillow is much cooler than other pillows that I have used, it has temperature regulating airflow in the pillow seems to work very well. It also features bamboo and charcoal properties which makes it anti-bacterial, eliminates odours, wicks away moisture, and regulates temperature – so is also perfect for people with allergies, asthma, sensitive skin and limits germs.
The pillow also has a removable cover which is machine washable at 40 degrees (the memory foam middle isn’t machine washable). This cover is very easy to remove and put back on – it zips on and off.
Overall, I LOVE the OTTY Deluxe Pure Pillow. It is definitely a luxurious, extremely comfortable pillow with excellent support and really does help get a good night’s sleep. At £64.99 it isn’t a cheap pillow but it is definitely worth the cost (and it won’t need replacing as often as my previous pillows so over the long term works out cheaper).
The support it offers is excellent, comfortable without being too firm or too soft and does a fantastic job of moulding to my head and neck – keeping my head supported and comfortable. A top-quality pillow, it really is a pillow you must try to believe it – but I doubt that you will be disappointed (and it comes with a 14 days hassle-free return policy if you don’t love it).
The OTTY pillow is the best pillow I have used to date. It’s comfortable and supportive, it isn’t losing its shape (even with my heavy head) and I do get a better night’s sleep most of the time and wake up with a lot less neck and shoulder pain and headaches/migraines.
