Minecraft

We all like our homes to look unique, having just a small amount of quirkiness to be different for everybody else without being laughable. That goes for the children too, they also like to have things in their rooms that show their likes and interests and add a fun element to their bedroom. With children though, fads come and go very quickly but one that seems to have stuck is Minecraft. And to be honest, I can’t see the attraction but the kids seem to love the building block game. Growing up, I loved building with physical LEGO bricks growing up, children today love building with Minecraft blocks on a screen. And they can even decorate their bedrooms with Minecraft merchandise including the Minecraft Building Block Desk Light.

The Minecraft Building Block Desk Light is a desk light with a very big difference, the blocks can be configured and reconfigured as many times as you like, just as in the game. It has 16, 4cm square light blocks, that can be taken off, re-arranged or even left off completely to create your own Minecraft inspired desk light using blocks that are recognisable from the game including TNT, Redstone, Diamond Ore, and more.

This is an officially licensed product and is a desk light that all fans of the very popular game with just love. It comes with 16 removable blocks, painted with designs from the game (made from BDP – eco-friendly, naturally decomposing plastic), enabling you to move the blocks around to customise your own desk lamp. It measures approximately 20cm x 18cm x 6cm and is mains powered.

The base is 16cm in length and individual 4cm light blocks can be lined up and stacked on it, creating your own design. When each block is plugged in it will light up and all blocks are lit equally and evenly. The light isn’t the brightest for sitting at the desk doing homework etc. but it does add a good colourful backlight to the room and will keep Minecraft fans happy, especially when rearranging the blocks.

Minecraft

Overall, this is an excellent desk lamp / nightlight for any young (or older) Minecraft fan. And there is no need to power it off to move, rearrange or even remove blocks to create a custom design light (the blocks are not hot to touch when being moved or rearranged).

As I already mentioned, the light emitted from the blocks isn’t quite bright enough to be used a reading light or room light. Whilst it does look cool with its various designs and images, I feel that it is more suited as a night light, or just something to add a small bit of backlight and character to a child’s bedroom (maybe when watching television or even playing Minecraft).

Whilst the children love this light, I did find a slight niggle. The colouring on the light blocks can get scratched very easily with constantly moving and rearranging them if not careful, which can be noticeable when the light is switched on. But if you are careful and not throwing the blocks around they should be OK, they are just not as durable as they could be (especially when it is for children).

The Minecraft Building Block Desk Light is a cool and customisable night light with moveable light blocks any Minecraft fan will love. It will look great in a child’s bedroom and will give their room that bit of quirky and unique character. Whilst not really any good for reading or doing homework, it is a fun addition to decorate a child’s room. Children will really enjoy being able to create their own designs.
