A lot of us will have a first aid kit of some sort at home and a lot of these kits may even contain a thermometer. But since COVID, a non-contact infrared thermometer has become increasingly popular and an essential part of any home medicine cabinet.
In the age of technology, where we have television screens, music players, powerful computers and even credit/debit cards all packed into one device in our pockets with our smartphones, the medical field has also seen a significant transformation, especially in the tools we use for everyday health monitoring. One such innovation is the Berrcom Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer, a digital forehead thermometer that promises ease of use, accuracy, and non-invasive temperature readings.
The Berrcom Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer has a user-friendly design and gives quick results. It’s a device that caters to the needs of both adults and children, making it a versatile addition to any home first aid kit. With a simple point-and-click mechanism, it captures temperature readings without any physical contact, which is a huge plus in times when hygiene is paramount.
Nobody likes to be ill, or seeing their loved ones ill, but unfortunately coughs, colds and fevers will happen to us all throughout our lives. Diagnosing basic symptoms such as a high temperature can help with better treatment and a digital non-contact thermometer is a quick and easy way to take your temperature and without placing a thermometer into your mouth or other places.
The Berrcom Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer is a lightweight (about 64g without batteries) handheld device that accurately measures your temperature without touching your body. It requires 2xAAA batteries (which are not supplied) and is so easy to use. It measures approx. 15.4 x 4 x 3cm (L x W x H), so is quite a nice size to hold and operate. When installing new batteries behind the slide down cover, you need to allow 10-15 minutes to let the thermometer adjust to the room temperature before using. To use, just press the on/scan button on the front of the device, hold the thermometer about 3cm away from the forehead and press the scan button again. Within 1 second you will have a temperature reading.
It your temperature is high (over 38°C / 100°F) the extra-large LED screen with display HI, otherwise it will display a number – mine is 36.6°C. Different people will have slightly different body temperatures but a normal reading should be approx. 37°C (ideally between 36.5°C and 37.5°C).
This thermometer can measure body temperature, surface temperature and room temperature. You can switch modes very easily just by pressing the button on the left side of the device and the symbol will change on the screen.
For example, I measured my body temperature and got a reading of 36.6°C. Without changing modes I measured the temperature of my cup of tea and it displayed high. Switching the mode to SURFACE and measuring the cup of tea again I then got a reading of 49.9°C. When switching to room temperature mode I got a reading of 23.1°C.
By default, the temperature measurement is displayed in Celsius but by pressing and holding the mode button and going to the F5 option you can switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F). You can even change the temperature overall offset by a few degrees should it be required (F4 option).

Overall, the Berrcom Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer is a very simple and easy to use no touch thermometer. It is very fast, giving readings in 1 second and displaying them reading on its large, easy to read screen. I do like that when your temperature is too low or too high it will display LO or HI, so you don’t have to know normal temperature ranges (when HI, it also vibrates 3 times). When within normal range it will give a number reading. And it seems accurate (I used an oral thermometer as well and got similar reading – they won’t be the same as the different methods will have slightly readings).
I love how fast it works and that there is no need for contact with the skin. My only slight issue with this thermometer is that I would have liked it to come with a protective case or bag or even just a protective cover for the sensor so that it doesn’t get scratched, dirty or damaged when stored away (so I am keeping it stored in the box that it came in).
Switching between Celsius and Fahrenheit is a nice and thoughtful touch, making is more accessible to people the world over.
It is obviously more expensive than an oral thermometer but is still an inexpensive device and one that I feel is easier and faster to use with just as accurate readings. I think that it is much better value for money. It makes checking body temperature a breeze and switching modes to surface temperature means you can even check things such as a babies bottle.
And when you have finished using it, it features a 30 second shutoff function so that it automatically turns itself off, saving battery life.
A thermometer is an excellent addition to any medicine cupboard or first aid kit and I love just how simple and easy to use the Berrcom Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer is. A worthwhile investment for health monitoring.
The only reason I’m not giving it 5/5 is because of the lack of a protective cover, either for the device itself or just for the lens.
