Oral hygiene is something we all need to keep on top of, unless you want all your teeth to fall out, have gum disease and bad breath. That means having a good oral hygiene routine and brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing and a good mouthwash. But when it comes to toothbrushes, what is better? A manual brush or an electric one? Having used both I would always go with an electric one, you can feel the difference after brushing and most dentists, if not all, will recommend an electric one. And when it comes to electric toothbrushes do you go with an oscillating one (round head) or a sonic one (diamond or oval head)? Recently I have been using the DeepKlean Sonic Toothbrush, which is faster than a oscillating brush and can clean a larger surface area, with a vibrating action that essentially vibrates plaque off from your teeth.
The DeepKlean Sonic Toothbrush boasts an impressive 40,000 vibrations per minute, ensuring that every corner of your mouth gets the attention it deserves. With such power, it’s like having a professional dental cleaning in the comfort of your home. The ultrasonic technology doesn’t just scrub the surface; it reaches deep between teeth and along the gum line, dislodging plaque and debris with ease.
In the box:
- Toothbrush Handle
- 8 Replacement Brush Heads
- USB Charging Base
- Travel Case
- Manual
The DeepKlean Sonic Toothbrush comes supplied with 8 DuPont-engineered brush heads. As it is recommended that we change our toothbrush every 3-4 months, that gives enough brush heads for 24-32 months (2-2½ years). And as the handle and one brush can be neatly stored in the travel case, your oral care doesn’t have to take a backseat when you’re on the move.
The toothbrush features six modes to cater to a variety of oral health needs, from gentle cleaning for sensitive gums to intense whitening for a brighter smile. Whether you’re looking to maintain your oral health or tackle specific concerns, the DeepKlean has a setting that’s just right for you.
- Clean / Clean + mode: medium intensity for regular cleaning
- White / White + mode: strong intensity for removing stains and stubborn plaque
- Soft / Soft + mode: Inverted frequency for gum care, gentle intensity for sensitive gums
The toothbrush is fitted with a rechargeable battery that gives an impressive 60 days battery life based on brushing for 2 minutes twice a day. To charge the toothbrush takes 4 hours from its charging base (it has a USB cable but no power adapter, so you will need a socket or adapter, or you can charge from your laptop when needed).
Now for the cleaning. If you are used to using a manual toothbrush it does take a bit of getting used to as it works in a different way. You don’t scrub the bristles across your teeth as with your trusty manual brush, but rather switch it to the required setting (which it remembers the last used setting when switched on) and let the vibrations of the bristles glide across your teeth and gums. It can feel strange at first but your soon get used to it. You will feel the difference in how clean your teeth are after brushing and after about 2 weeks should notice the difference (stubborn stains that a manual brush can’t remove are vastly reduced or gone).
We all know that we should brush each quadrant for 30 seconds each, giving a total brushing time of 2 minutes. The DeepKlean Sonic Toothbrush is smart; the built-in smart vibration timers (every 30 seconds) ensure you’re brushing for the right amount of time, promoting better brushing habits and overall dental health.
Overall, the DeepKlean Sonic Toothbrush is fantastic, once you get used to the difference brushing styles over a manual toothbrush and the sensations you feel while brushing. But it does a superb job of cleaning every tooth, even hard to reach back ones – so much so that my dentist has even remarked that my brushing technique has improved.
The toothbrush is very easy to use. Put the toothpaste on the brush, put it in your mouth and then switch it on (switch it on before putting it in your mouth and you are going to have toothpaste everywhere). Selecting your preferred setting is easy; just press the button to cycle through the different settings. The brush has three lights for the different modes; a solid top light is for clean mode, a flashing top light is for clean + mode. The next light will be for White / White + mode (solid / flashing) and the last light will be for Soft / Soft + mode (solid / flashing). And it is waterproof (IPX7 rated) so you can even use it in the shower.
Changing the brush head or taking it off to store in the travel case is also easy, it just pulls off (it can be a bit tight).
The toothbrush comes with 8 brush heads, making it excellent value for money at £20 – especially considering that 4 DeepKlean brush heads cost £9.99.
The battery life is excellent. Charging is simple and the travel case makes it perfect for storing and taking with you.
If you care about looking after your teeth; removing stains, stopping plaque build-up and oral hygiene in general, then the DeepKlean Sonic Toothbrush is excellent. After using it, you really can feel the difference versus a manual brush. It will feel very different when you start using it, but stick with it as the results are worth it.
