The Zippo Rechargeable Candle Lighter means that you don’t need to reply on having matches in the house or a can of lighter fluid to refill your trusty Zippo lighter. The Zippo Candle Lighter is charged via micro USB and uses electricity to produce a windproof electrical arc that can be used to light candles or gas hobs. The candle lighter doesn’t produce a flame, it has a heat point a fraction of the size of a flame, and because of the lack of flame and the long-reach, flexible neck, it can be used to safely and precisely light whatever you need it to light.

Zippo’s Rechargeable Candle Lighter is approx. 26cm in length and is available in 3 different colours: Candy Apple Red, Pebble and Rose Gold. It is supplied with a USB charging cable (no plug, but we all have plenty of these around the house and some plug sockets now also have USB ports).
The thing that initially impressed me was the feel of the product; it is a metal bodied device that feels very substantial, feels cool and reassuringly robust to hold. The lighter has an ignition switch, a safety switch, and a charging port with charging indicator light. The barrel of the lighter is a rose gold, red or grey finish, with all the trim, switches and the neck of the lighter itself being silver. It looks much better than my old and cheap refillable plastic gas lighter.
It is incredibly simple to use, and very safe to use as well. The built-in safety features prevent young children accidentally lighting the lighter as you are required to hold down the safety switch with one finger and use your thumb to click the ignition. This produces a small plasma beam arc between the prongs on the end of the lighter which is then used instead of a flame to light candles or whatever you want to light. It is even windproof – not so much of a problem in the kitchen but perfect when outdoors for gas barbecues etc.
Overall, I think that this is an excellent gadget to have for the kitchen, living room, garden etc. The build quality is excellent, and the charge time of circa 90 minutes provides up to 26 arcs per charge (it has a 250mAh internal rechargeable battery). This might not sound like much, but it is plenty, and it is so quick and simple to just plug in if it runs out – no more rushing to the shops or knocking on the neighbours’ doors to light the kids’ birthday candles. The flexible neck makes it extremely easy to get into hard to reach places and obviously because of its length, no burnt fingers when trying to light something.
Perfect for lighting candles, the oven or gas rings rings, barbecues etc.
