Electric Blanket

Yesterday we had snow (at least here in Manchester anyway). Overnight saw minus temperatures and whilst the temperature has risen slightly the mercury is still in the minus. Cold, very cold indeed. That makes having a nice warm bed to get into at night all the more inviting, especially when it is being warmed by the Slumberdown Wonderfully Warm Electric Blanket with its dual controls and multi-zone heating areas.

The Slumberdown Wonderfully Warm Electric Blanket is a luxury, quilted fleece electric blanket (with removable cover than can go in the washing machine) and is packed with features. It does an excellent job of heating the bed and keeping it warm and is very cost effective and cheaper than turning on the heating as it costs from as little as 1p per hour (depending on user settings); for a double blanket it costs approximately 3p per hour to run on the highest heat setting with a power level of 80W.

It’s equipped with two thick elasticated straps to easily attach it to the mattress – no strings to tie like other electric blankets I have used in the past. It has multi-zone heating so that each half of the bed can have different heats and even be turned on/off without affecting the other side. With 9 different heat levels and dual controls, each person can control their own heat without being reliant on the other person and has different body and foot heat settings. And it even comes with an auto shutoff feature.

Fitting it to the mattress is easy. Just place it on top of the mattress (it is smaller than the mattress – a double size measures 120x150cm), pull the thick elasticated straps underneath the mattress and put your top sheet over it. As it is an electric blanket it will need to be plugged in to the mains and as it is dual control you will need two plug sockets (one on each side of the bed).

Using it is easy and it warms the bed brilliantly and fast. This electric blanket has dual controls with separate heat zones for each half of the bed as well as for body and feet; all of which can be adjusted by the controller unit on each side. Once you turn it on, there are three options that you can set. The controller has LED displays; two that display numbers from zero to nine, which set the temperature levels for body and feet and one that is a LED light for timer options. To set the heat setting you press the body button until you hit the required number, same for feet. The timer button cycles between 1hr, 5hrs, 8hrs and 12hrs, with each setting having a differently coloured LED light so you can even see in the dark what the timer is set to.

When you have set the temperatures, lying on it is extremely comfortable and most importantly, warm. Depending on what timer setting you have used, the blanket will turn off after that time. Each half of the bed can set their own individual heat preferences and timer settings without affecting the other side. I prefer less body heat but more heat for feet (my feet and hands seem to get really cold).

Overall, the Slumberdown Wonderfully Warm Electric Blanket with its multi-zoned heat and dual controls is excellent for the cold winter nights and certainly most welcome on the coldest of nights lately. It can be used to take the chill off the bed, heat the bed to a toasty level and be set to turn off after a set level of time. And as each zone is independent from your partners side of the bed, so there are disagreements over how hot or cold the bed is or isn’t.

It is simple to fit on the bed and the removeable washable cover is fantastic. It is very energy efficient and cheap to use, much cheaper than turning on the heating and heats a lot better than a hot water bottle with controlled temperature in the right places. The control units are simple to operate.

The Slumberdown Wonderfully Warm Electric Blanket is available in single (with obviously one controller), double, king and super king sizes and is an excellent cost effective way to stay wonderfully warm and toasty during even the coldest of winter nights.
