Door Lock

Home and personal security these days is a lot more hi-tech with wireless security cameras, fingerprint entry door locks, video doorbells, infrared beam sensors, smart lighting and lots more. But sometimes something simple, without electronics, wireless connections or apps can be just as effective, at home and on your travels. Doors are the biggest entry points into a room, and not all have locks to make it more difficult to enter. Meet the portable door lock, a small device that you insert into the lock on the door jamb of inward opening doors to stop them being easily opened. Along with the doors normal lock (if it has one), it will give secondary protection, making doors a door harder to get past.

This portable door lock is perfect for at home, hotel rooms, AirBNB’s, college dormitories and rooms in shared houses, adding an extra lock to a door that is easy to install and remove. And no tools are needed!

This small portable door lock is a simple metal and plastic device that can be easily installed and removed in seconds. It will work on most inward opening hinged doors with a cylinder lock. Once fitted, it gives an extra layer of protection and privacy. It is an ideal travel lock that you can use on your hotel/motel or for students away at college.

Small, compact and lightweight, it will fit easily in your pocket or bag but is strong and durable enough to keep the door locked. It is a heavy duty lock made of stainless steel.

I have no locks on any internal doors in my house so it was ideal to test it out and see if it would actually ‘lock’ the door. With the door open, the portable lock is inserted, claws first, into the hole on the strikeplate and then the door is closed. The lock is now held in position but isn’t locked yet. To ‘lock’ the door, the red handle (which is on a chain on the metal plate} is then hooked into the heart shaped hole, pressing against the door. The door is now ‘locked’. But does it work? Yes, it does. On turning the handle and pulling the door it would not open (from either side).

To remove, you just unhook the red handle and open the door as normal. Very simple to use, no tools or DIY expertise needed, and it can be used over and over again at home or on your travels.

Overall, this portable door lock is great. Simple to fit and use, simple to remove and gives added protection to the door. It will stop people opening your door and coming in and whilst it works on doors without locks it would make doors with locks more secure. This is a portable door lock to stop normal, unauthorised entry into a room – it won’t stop someone determined to get in by kicking the door open for example but is perfect for generally everyday security and privacy.

As it is so small and lightweight, it is easy to keep in your bag and take with you on your travels. It even comes with its own travel pouch.

Whilst it works on all my internal doors, it won’t work on every door. There must be enough space between the door and the door jamb for in to fit (with the door closed you can use the handle of the lock to test the space by seeing if it fits into the space). The door must open inwards, and the cylinder lock must be no bigger that 2cm.

I think that this is an excellent little device to lock a door or give added protection to a door with a keylock so that even if someone uses the key, they still can’t get in. It not only locks a door but gives you peace of mind knowing that someone cannot just walk in, giving you better safety and privacy.

And at around £6, it is an inexpensive security device that is value for money.

A great addition to your home and personal security measures, and ideal for taking on holiday, college etc.
