It doesn’t matter if you a DIY enthusiast, someone that does the odd job around the house or somebody that gets a professional in to do those jobs that you can’t, won’t or don’t want to do, we all have tools of some sort in the house. Whether you know how to use them or what to do with them is a completely didn’t matter. But in a busy household there is always a odd job that needs doing; a door handle tightened, a picture put up, fuses in plugs needing changing etc., and that’s where having the Leatherman FREE P2 Multi-tool comes in extremely handy.
Leatherman are a world-renowned maker of multi-tools. First described as a Boy Scout knife with pliers, their multi-tools are built around a pair of pliers, and have a variety of functions. Formed in 1983, they have been creating excellent quality multi-function tools that have a massive 25 years warranty.
In the world of multitools, the Leatherman FREE P2 is a beacon of versatility and user-friendly design. It’s not just a tool; it’s a companion for the everyday adventurer, the problem solver, and the practical craftsman. The FREE P2 is a testament to Leatherman’s commitment to quality and functionality.
The Leatherman FREE P2 Multi-tool has been engineered with precision, measuring 4.25″/10.25cm when closed and boasts an array of tools. This very versatile multipurpose, problem solving tool comes with 19 different tools, these are:

The Leatherman FREE P2 not only looks luxurious and feels real quality with its precision engineering, when opened, it reveals its hidden tools in a display of engineering finesse. Made from 100% Stainless Steel, it features magnetic opening and closing, has all-locking tools, designed for one-hand opening and comes with a removable pocket clip and nylon sheath that you can attach to your belt. Weighing in at approx. 7.06oz/215.46g it is lightweight, but doesn’t feel flimsy and is actually a nice weight to hold and use. With a folded length of just 4.25” it takes up very little room and fits nicely onto a belt, into a pocket, an emergency bag or toolkit (although please be aware of UK knife laws and carrying blades).
The Leatherman FREE P2 has nearly all the tools you would need for those odd jobs around the home, trying to fix your car after a breakdown or helping you out on those camping and hiking adventures that you might want to take. All the tools, bar the pliers which make up the central piece, are on the outside edges, folded and hidden away within the handles. They are accessible using one hand, there is no need to open it up to use any of the tools except the pliers.
The are every day tools within the magnetically closed handles; screwdrivers to tighten the screws on your glasses, a bottle opener, can opener, file, pry tool for opening those paint tins and even a small straight ruler. Even the cutter heads can be replaced yourself when the blades are dulled.
Whilst it has been precision engineered to an extremely high standard, I did have one small issue with it. The tabs on the handle sit proud of the chassis so when you are bearing down on the handle using pressure when using the pliers or cutters, the tabs can dig into the palm of your hand and can be uncomfortable.

Overall, the Leatherman FREE P2 is an extremely tough, durable and very practical multi-purpose tool. It has tools that are perfect for everyday use, perfect for those small DIY chores around the house, at work for stripping cables, opening paint tins, tightening screws etc. and is even useful for leisure activities such as camping and fishing or just simply opening packets and cutting paper. It even comes with a strong and durable nylon sheath to protect the tool and wear it on your belt. And Leatherman are so confident in the quality of their tools, they offer a 25 year warranty against defects (except for the dulling of blades and cutting edges, these need to sharpened or replaced at a cost).
But all that quality, backed with a quality warranty, comes at a cost. The Leatherman FREE P2 doesn’t come cheap, it has a hefty price tag of £150! It is definitely at the luxury end of the multipurpose tool market. Is it worth it? The simple answer is yes. Once you see and feel the quality, how easy it is to hold and use and the usefulness of the toolset, you will see that it is definitely worth the investment. A multi-tool that you can be sure will last the distance.
