Solar

Wherever I go, I have a power bank (portable charger) in my backpack. As, like a lot of people, my phone is used for more than making phone calls or receiving texts and running out of battery power could be problematic in some cases. That means having portable power in my backpack to keep my phone topped up a must have. I have recently changed my old power bank to a power bank with a higher capacity battery and supports wireless charging and it can also receive a charge using solar power.

My phone needs charging at night and once during the day depending on what I am doing. Why? Well, I have wireless earbuds and my watch connected via Bluetooth and I always use them when out and about. My data connection is always on as well as my wireless connection. Therefore, as well as taking calls and receiving messages, I am also streaming and listening to music, have my phone and watch connected to monitor steps, distance walked, mapping my walks and other functions, checking the internet, tapping my phone to pay for things, and if travelling I generally have my train ticket in the app on my phone. That means running out of battery (especially with my train ticket) is a no-no. So, I always carry a power bank so that I charge my phone wherever I am and on the go – no need to hunt for power sockets and wait for a charge.

A few weeks ago, I purchased a Hiluckey 26800mAh Wireless Solar Charger Power Bank in orange and black. It is a high capacity portable charger with QI-certified wireless charging, USB and USB C ports and can charge up to 4 devices simultaneously (1 wirelessly and 3 by USB cables). It’s also water and dust resilient, shockproof and it features a solar panel to enable you to charge the power bank whilst out and about (just attach it to your bag and let the sun do its work). It also features a flashlight with 3 modes (flashlight, rapid flashing and SOS mode).

Features:

  • QI wireless charger. Really wireless solar power charger with wireless output supports all QI enabled phones for inductive charging. Such as iPhone 11 Pro Max / XS Max / 8 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S20 / S10 / Note 10 Plus etc.
  • Ultra-high 26800mAh capacity: The mobile phone size portable charger provides 8 charges for the iPhone 11, 6 charges for the Galaxy S10 or 3 charges for the iPad mini, and with a single charge it is reliable for up to 8 days.
  • Quick charging: It can charge 4 devices simultaneously at full speed. Automatically detect the current of your devices to get the fastest possible charging speed (max. 3A) with which the iPhone 11 can be fully charged in 1.3 hours.
  • 2.5 times charging: With a USB-C charger (not included) you can fully charge your power bank in 7 hours, which is 2.5 times faster than a 1A input. The USB-C port can also act as an output to charge your phone.
  • Outdoor essentials: Equipped with a solar panel, simply hang it on your backpack to charge it via sunlight. The built-in LED flashlight with “Steady Flashing-SOS” 3 modes and waterproof/dustproof/shockproof design is perfect for outdoor activities.

Overall, I think that the Wireless Solar Charger Power Bank from Hiluckey is a versatile and powerful power bank that is truly cable free with its wireless charging and solar panel recharging functions. Despite it having a 26800 high capacity battery to charge my devices several times over, it is not too heavy to carry around (approx. 470g).

The wireless charging function is fantastic, I just pop my phone on top on the power bank and it starts to fast charge without the need to hunt around for cables.

It can also charge devices that don’t have wireless charging using the USB ports and cables. It is supplied with a USB-C cable to enable you to charge the power bank so you will need to add your own cables for devices that you want to use it with. All the connections are hidden under a rubber cover to make it water and dust resistant.

Whilst it fast charges devices, the power bank itself needs 7-8 hours to fully charge using the USB C cable. Solar charging is more for emergency charging and is a lot slower and requires direct sunlight.

The solar panel is 1.9w and covers one side of the power bank. On sunny days it will soak up the sun, if in direct sunlight, and slowly add charge to the power bank. It can be clipped to you backpack to get a charge whilst out and about.

The power bank is also equipped with a flashlight, which is a handy feature. If you like to explore the outdoors, you can use it as a standard steady and solid light to guide your way and for emergencies to attract attention – you can put it into a rapid flashing mode or even get it to flash and repeat the SOS signal (three short flashes, followed by three long flashes and three short flashes again).

I love that it has a high capacity battery so that I don’t have to recharge it after every use and the wireless charging is perfect for me, no hunting around for cables.

This is a perfect power bank to keep in a backpack to charge your phone and other devices on the go. The high capacity battery ensures that you have enough charge in your devices whatever you are doing and the solar charging, albeit slower and relies on sunlight, can keep the power bank topped up when out and about. If is also shockproof, dust and water resistant, so is perfect for outdoor activities.

If you are looking for a portable power bank to keep in your bag for on your travels or outdoor leisure pursuits, then I can recommend this one. It is even airplane friendly – it is 99w, so it comes under the 100w limit than airlines have meaning that it can be taken on a plane and on holiday with you.

Never run out of battery on your phone, tablet or wireless earbuds/headphones again.
