Outdoors

As the days grow longer, brighter, and warmer, they invite us to cast off our winter clothes in favour of lighter, more comfortable attire. It’s time to emerge from the confines of our homes to bask in the fresh air and savour the outdoor environment. Enjoying the outdoors doesn’t necessarily mean engaging in sports or high-energy activities; there are numerous other ways to appreciate the external world, such as taking leisurely strolls, tending to a garden, picnicking in the park, or simply relaxing in the garden with a good book. Whilst sports and active pastimes are enjoyable, it’s also important to take time to relax and experience the outdoors in a more tranquil manner.

Enjoying the outdoors is about more than just having fun. You might have the garden to tend to and get in nice for the spring and summer months. A daily walk to explore your local area or a hike around a nature reserve might be your thing. A picnic with friends and family is also a great way to relax and enjoy your outside spaces and get some fresh air into your lungs, or just pull up chair and read a book surrounded by garden life.

If gardening is your thing, it can be hard work but you want to make it as easy as possible so that you can actually enjoy your garden. So tools like the Qwickhose Starter Set – universal hose connectors that won’t pop off can make looking after your gardening much simpler and easier. Giving you more time to relax and soak up the enjoyment of your own personal outside space.

Going for a nice sedate walk to explore or just to keep active can be quite relaxing. But listening to some music along the way can improve your experience, but not necessarily that of the people around you. As a lot of us will listen to music from our phones, we can keep our listening choices personal with a good pair or truly wireless earbuds or wireless headphones. And don’t forget a good pair of comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots.

What about that picnic? Grab a blanket, your picnic basket and some food and head to the park with your family or friends and relax on the grass, soaking up the sun, fresh air and friendly atmosphere. Don’t forget the portable / travel cutlery and utensils and those portable reusable straws. Like your daily, music can enhance the experience. But everybody listening to their own music on their own earbuds or headphones wouldn’t be very sociable. So take along a wireless battery-operated portable speaker and enjoy some music, the radio or even a podcast, just don’t turn it up so loud that it ruins the peacefulness of the park and the enjoyment of the other users.

Whatever you are doing to enjoy the outdoors, whether that’s garden chores, exercise, socialising or relaxing and soaking up the sun, at some point you are going to come to the attention of those outdoor annoyances, not the kids, but those crawling and flying little beasts that love nothing more to snack on you. Yes, with enjoying the outdoors also comes with the hazard of insect bites and stings, but forget the meds and try an electronic insect bite healer – I think that they work very well. They won’t stop the bites and stings, but will reduce the symptoms and aid quicker healing.

And for all that tech we take with us everywhere we go, whether it is just our phone or those wireless earbuds, headphones and portable speakers or even a tablet, battery power doesn’t need to be an issue if you take along a portable charger / power bank to keep those batteries topped up. Invest in a solar powered charger and you can even keep that topped up too!

Whatever you are doing to enjoy the outdoors, remember to apply suncream and wear a hat etc. to keep your skin protected, just 10 minutes exposure to strong sun can burn the skin (it doesn’t even need to be a particularly sunny day). Always drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated. For advice on sun safety, visit the NHS website. And whatever you decide to do in the outside world, treat it respect and respect your surroundings by putting your litter in the bin or taking it home with you.
