There was a time, not too far in the distant past, that when listening to music on the go it was done with a Walkman or Discman, which then got upgraded to MP3 players. Apart from all being devices to listen to music, they had another common feature – wired earphones or headphones. In today’s world, those devices have mostly disappeared, although you can still get MP3 players, and have been replaced by something much more powerful – the smartphone. Most of us have a smartphone these days and we use them for everything from humble text messages and phone calls to audio and video entertainment systems. The problem with everybody having a mobile entertainment unit in their pocket is that a small minority of people play their music or videos using the phone speaker, which is not ideal as the sound quality isn’t always the greatest and everybody else around you doesn’t want to hear it. It is just polite to use earbuds or headphones. I always use wireless earbuds and have been trying out the budget-friendly Canyon OnGo 10 earbuds.
The Canyon OnGo 10 TWS-10 ANC Wireless Earbuds are energy-efficient Bluetooth 5.3 earbuds that offer an excellent stable connection and long playback. They are perfect for listening to music, watching videos or taking/making phone calls.
With the Canyon OnGo 10 TWS-10 ANC Wireless Earbuds you get two wireless earbuds (left and right ears) in a neat little charging case. The charging case allows you to charge the earbuds on the go, with a full charge of the earbuds taking just 50 minutes. The charging case itself takes just 2 hours to fully charge (USB-C). They are available in four colour options (beige, black, great and purple).
Out of the box, I plugged them in to fully charge, which didn’t happen. This was my fault as I forgot to remove the stickers from the charging ports on the earbuds. Once I removed the stickers, I popped them back into the case and left them to charge (happily they did this time). The initial charge didn’t take too long as they was some charge already in the case/earbuds (since then I have let the case and earbuds run down and yes it does take around 2 hours to fully charge the case and about 50 minutes to fully charge the earbuds themselves).
The charging case has a USB-C connection for charging while the earbuds themselves slot into the holes inside (they have specific slots for left and right earbuds) and are held in securely with magnets. The case also has a reset button which can be seen when the lid is opened – this allows you to unpair the earbuds if you want to use them on another device.
To use the earbuds, just pop the earbuds out of the case and they will automatically pair, all you need to do is enable Bluetooth on your phone, tablet, laptop etc. and select OnGo to connect. The earbuds have touch control on them to skip tracks, answers calls etc.
Overall, as a budget pair of wireless earbuds they sound good and I found them extremely comfortable to wear, even after I had them in for over an hour. The sound quality is very good at low and medium levels, I found it started to get a little distorted at higher volumes, but overall it was an enjoyable experience.
I didn’t find the Active Noise Cancellation the greatest (compared to higher end earbuds I have used), it did provide some noise cancellation but didn’t block out everything.
The quality of phone calls was good, and I did find the Environmental Noise Cancelling worked better than the ANC, making speech clearer.
Charging is quick with just 2 hours to fully charge the charging case. The earbuds take 50 minutes for a full charge. Will the earbuds being fully charged you get around 6 hours usage (obviously this depends on your settings – this will reduce at higher volume levels and ANC turned on) and the charging case gives another 4 full charges bring usage up to about 30 hours before the charging case needs to be recharged – so plenty of usage time when out and about.
For me, as budget-friendly earbuds they are very good. The sound is clear and have a good bass unless you have the volume up far too loud. Phone calls are clear and the earbuds are easy to use once you get used to how many taps on the earbud to operate them. As for quality, the quality feels excellent and they look great. And for £35 I think the Canyon OnGo 10 are a good budget buy.
