smol Foaming Handwash

I don’t know about you, but I always like to be clean and most people do take pride in their personal hygiene. When spring rolls in, personal hygiene always feels like it gets a seasonal reset. So when a product promises to make this every day ritual more sustainable, more cost‑effective and even more enjoyable, it has to be worth a closer look. When it comes to personal hygiene, handwashing is one of those everyday rituals we barely think about, yet it’s one of the most constant touchpoints in our homes. Enter smol Foaming Handwash, a refill‑tablet system designed to cut plastic waste, reduce carbon impact and still leave your hands feeling fresh and cared for. With spring cleaning energy in full swing, this feels like the perfect moment to see whether smol’s foaming formula is a genuine upgrade – or just another eco‑gimmick dressed in pastel branding.

So what makes smol’s handwash any different than others? Well, smol’s foaming handwash is built around a simple idea: a bottle‑for‑life paired with tiny refill tablets that dissolve into a lightweight foaming soap. smol claims it lasts longer and costs less per wash than traditional liquid handwash, and the maths does seem to stack up. A starter pack that includes a reusable recycled bottle (made from recycled plastic) and a single tablet costs just £3 (or add a recycled aluminium bottle for £3), while refills arrive in packs of six tablets for £10.50, posted straight through your letterbox. No bulky plastic bottles, no unnecessary packaging and no faff.

I received the slate aluminium bottle-for-life, made from recycled materials, and it is surprisingly stylish, with a minimalist look that I love – it is also available in petal, honey and pistachio colours so you can fit in with your bathroom or kitchen décor. It’s lightweight but extremely sturdy, well-constructed and is infinitely refillable. For anyone trying to reduce single‑use plastic as part of their spring reset, this is an easy win.

But does it work?

Well, the simple answer is YES! The bottle is lightweight aluminium, that feels strong and durable, with a recycled plastic pump mechanism. You fill the bottle with 300ml of warm water and drop in the tablet. You are soon presented with a foaming handwash with the pump is pressed.

Performance-wise, the foaming action is genuinely satisfying. The Sea Breeze fragrance is light, clean, not overpowering, and the foam spreads easily without leaving behind any residue. According to smol, the formula is dermatologically tested, vegan, cruelty‑free and uses fewer chemicals than standard handwash options. It does and excellent job of not only cleaning your hands but leaves them with a very light scent and feeling soft.

smol Foaming Handwash

Overall, I found the smol Foaming Handwash to be a good handwash product with excellent eco credentials – a small but meaningful shift toward lower‑impact living. The foam isn’t a thick liquid or as rich and creamy as others but it does the job well and the refill system (a subscription based model), arrives neatly through the post in letterbox-friendly, recycled packaging.

With its sustainability credentials, using recycled materials, there is very minimal waste and certainly no plastic filling up landfills, making it an excellent choice for anybody that is eco-conscience.

The subscription model won’t work for everyone. You get 6 tablets per delivery (every 10-20 weeks depending on the option that you choice), which as you don’t need to use a lot to wash your hands should be just as long lasting (or better) than other handwashes. The price, depending on the product you usually use, is comparable or slightly cheaper (there is a delivery charge of £1.99 per order or free delivery on orders over £20). Some products that are supplied in reusable plastic bottles can be returned to smol (when you have 4) free of charge so that they can be reused, no wastage!

The smol Foaming Handwash is a thoughtful, well‑designed product that genuinely improves a daily routine. It’s simple, effective and environmentally considerate without feeling preachy or inconvenient. As part of a spring cleaning refresh, it ticks all the boxes: cleaner hands, and a cleaner conscience, and the aluminium bottle looks great (and is easy to clean). For households looking to make small but impactful swaps that help to reduce plastic waste, smol’s foaming handwash is a simple and functional place to start.

While this foaming handwash won’t save you loads of money, it is not expensive and it is much better for the environment, so its sustainability trumps monetary saving (although it does work out cheaper than a lot of other handwash products). Plus it does an excellent job of keeping your hands clean, without an overpowering smell and great for sensitive skin (no phthalates or triclosan) and is Vegan, cruelty-free and 100% free of any animal derived ingredients.
