Powerline

Most of us have an internet connection of some sort in our homes, but do you have a problem with the signal not getting to certain rooms in your house? There are ways to extend the signal; you can run an ethernet cable around the house directly into the router, you can use range extenders, you could even add in a mesh system. But if you live in a house with thick walls and multiple floors, running ethernet cables around the house could be a big job and get expensive depending on how many rooms you need to get into, and range extenders and mesh systems might still have the wifi signal blocked by thick walls and still leave dead zones. The easiest way to extend an internet connection into different rooms of the house without drilling holes through walls and running cables or using wifi signal extenders is to use Powerline.

But what is Powerline? Powerline products turn the electrical wiring of a home into network cables and transmit signals to every room. You can form a Powerline network wherever there are power outlets.

With the TP-Link Nano AV600 Powerline adapters there is no need for drilling and running cables, no need to configure range extenders or mesh systems and rely on a wireless signal. With the Powerline adapters you can turn electrical wiring in your home into a high-speed network with ease. Just by plugging in at least two Powerline adapters. Every single adapter acts as a portable LAN port, transmitting a wired and wireless network to any place in your home where there’s an outlet, regardless of physical obstacles.

I don’t get a reliable wireless connection in some rooms in my house, it is very hit and miss when it wants to work. The TP-Link AV600 Powerline Starter Kit uses the existing electricity cables in my house to deliver an internet connection through the plug sockets. They enable me to get an internet connection in any room in my house.

The TP-Link PA4010KIT Nano AV600 Nano Powerline Starter Kit contains 2x Powerline adapters and instructions. Each Powerline adapter features 1 fast port on it that can transmit data at up to 600Mbps. The idea of the Powerline is that is turns a 3-pin power socket in the house into an internet outlet. As long as the device you are using has an ethernet port (there are also wireless extender versions as well) you can plug into the box and get a reliable and stable internet connection. I think that this is an excellent idea, especially for houses like mine with a terrible wireless signal as I can plug the Powerline into any room in the house and have an internet connection, and it is even portable as I can unplug the adapter and place in a different room with ease.

As we and talking about extending internet signals to different rooms using electrical cables buried within the walls, you are probably thinking that there must be a complicated configuration process to set it up for use. There really isn’t. In fact, it could not be simpler; you just plug them in with the router connected to one and your laptop, television, games console etc into the other, press the pair button and you’re good to go (up to a distance of 300m meters). No configuration needed. Instant internet wherever you plug in the other Powerline (you can use more than the two in the kit if you need to extend to more than one room). They even have 128-bit AES encryption built-in to them to protect your data.

Overall, I think the TP-Link PA4010KIT Nano AV600 Nano Powerline Starter Kit is perfect for extending the internet around my home where the wireless signal doesn’t reach or isn’t reliable. I have been using the Powerline for a while now, streaming video (SD and HD) to the television in another room and it hasn’t dropped connection, and the video is smooth. The Powerline adapters work over a distance of up to 300 metres so works in every room in my house. They are also equipped with a power saving mode, so when they are not in use they reduce their power consumption by up to 85%.

I like that you can add more adapters to the system if you require more connections throughout the house (as long as the power sockets are on the same electricity fuse board you shouldn’t have a problem).

I am very impressed with the TP-Link Powerlines. The TP-Link PA4010KIT Nano AV600 is the basic version, you can get faster versions and with an pass-through plug socket on them. It is an excellent piece of kit and an inexpensive way to extend your internet connection into other rooms with no fuss, no cables running throughout the house and not relying on a wireless connection. They are perfect for streaming, gaming, browsing the internet and home office networking needs.

They are extremely easy to install, plug in and press the pair buttons, no expert configuration is needed, so anybody can install them in minutes and have an internet connection in those wifi dead zones around the home.
