Snack Maker

The kitchen. Home, or graveyard, to lots of “useful” kitchen gadgets. Some are so useful that they get used once when we first get them and then they are buried with the rest of the gadgets in the “gadget graveyard”. When we do fancy a hot snack and want something not from the microwave or having to put the oven on, trying to find the right kitchen appliance can take longer than actually preparing the food by hand. When it comes to small kitchen appliances, we really do need to think about our selections and the Russell Hobbs 3-in-1 Deep Fill Snack Maker is one such appliance that will always be used.

The Russell Hobbs 3-in-1 Deep Fill Snack Maker is a toasted sandwich/panini maker, waffle maker and a grill all in one space-saving handy little unit. With its easily removable plates for each style of food, it makes preparing different hot snacks extremely easy.

The Russell Hobbs 3-in-1 Deep Fill Snack Maker is a two portion 760w snack maker. It is supplied with 3 sets of very easily removable plates which make it extremely easy to create completely different foods, and quickly! This makes it the perfect kitchen gadget, especially if you want a quick and tasty snack.

I love toasted cheese sandwiches, unfortunately I never bother to make them (unless you count slapping two slices of cheese between 2 slices of toast). With the snack maker, my first task was always going to be a toasted sandwich. Something really quick and easy, and something that I enjoy. I inserted the 2 sandwich plates into the snack maker and locked them into place, added the bread (buttered side face down) and pushed the bread into the crevices to give a deep fill, filled it with cheese and then placed a slice of bread on top (buttered side up). I then pulled the lid closed, latched it, and waited a few minutes. In a few minutes I had the perfect toasted cheese sandwich, and it tasted great.

Not being great in the kitchen, as the snack maker was so simple to use, I decided to make some waffles, bearing in mind that I have never made a waffle in my life. I quickly changed the plates from the sandwich ones to the waffle ones (it only takes a few seconds) and followed the very simple recipe that is supplied in the instruction booklet that came with the snack maker.

I mixed up the ingredients as per the recipe and poured the liquid onto the two waffle compartments and closed the lid (for waffles you don’t latch it as they need room to grow). After 3 minutes I had 2 golden brown waffles that tasted perfect (although mine didn’t come out entirely square). Despite their skewed shape, they were edible and tasted good.

Already eaten a toasted cheese sandwich and some waffles, I wasn’t hungry for anything else so decided to leave the grill plate for another time. I removed the waffle plate and soaked it in the sink with the sandwich plates and they were easy to clean (as was the snack maker where I had spilled some waffle mixture).

Since then, I have used the grill plates with small bits of chicken (nothing too fatty) and the pieces cooked easily and quick.

Overall, I am very impressed with the Russell Hobbs 3-in-1 Deep Fill Snack Maker. It is very quick and easy to use. The results are great, whether that is toasted sandwiches, waffles or grilled food. It is also very easy to keep clean as long as you don’t let the food dry on to the plates or the machine itself.

My favourite is the toasted sandwiches, very quick and easy to make. I will use the snack maker for toasted sandwiches and waffles, not so sure about the grill as I generally use my George Foreman Grill for cooking meat, but that is just personal choice.

It is also a compact machine that is easy to store in the cupboard as it stands upright. The plates are stored separately, I put then in a small plastic box so that I don’t scratch them. It is not supplied with a box or pouch to store the unused plates in.

This is definitely a kitchen gadget that really does make life easier as it has multiple uses. It is also one that will actually get used (at least in my kitchen) and is the perfect small appliance for hot snacks for breakfast and lunch times.
