Sonic Toothbrush

Oral hygiene is extremely important for our health and personal care, bad teeth can cause more problems than just tooth decay and gum disease, it can also lead to chronic headaches for example. Brushing our teeth twice a day, along with flossing, not only helps keep your teeth and gums clean and plaque free but also helps to keep bacteria under control. Looking after our teeth and brushing daily and properly is the best way stop plaque building up. Plaque build-up causes tooth decay, gum disease and bad breath. Spending just 2 minutes, twice a day (morning and night), brushing your teeth is a must and a good toothbrush is absolutely essential (along with flossing and a good mouth wash). Not only will you be keeping your teeth clean and your gums healthy, you will keep your teeth for longer and have a brighter whiter natural smile. And it can all be achieved with a good toothbrush. Whilst a manual toothbrush is good and with proper brushing can achieve the same results as an electric toothbrush, I find that an electric or sonic toothbrush is much easier and, for me anyway, does a far superior job. An electric toothbrush brushes more vigorously and deliver thousands more strokes per minute than a manual toothbrush. I have been trying out the Oclean Flow Electric Sonic Toothbrush.

Since switching from a manual toothbrush to an electric one with a rotating brush head, I have definitely noticed the difference and my teeth feel a lot cleaner (and for longer) and my dentist has noticed an improvement in better brushing.

The Oclean Flow Electric Sonic Toothbrush is a USB rechargeable electric toothbrush that brushes 3 times faster than a manual toothbrush, has different cleaning modes and even features a timer so you can brush for the correct length of time.

In the box:

  • Electric Sonic Toothbrush
  • Brush Head
  • USB Charging Cable
  • User Manual

Features:

  • Up to 180 Days Super Long Battery Life
  • 5 Brushing Modes
  • 76,000 Movements/min Maglev Motor
  • Dupont Diamond & W Shape Bristles
  • IPX7 Waterproof
  • 2 Minutes Timer & 30 Seconds Reminder

The toothbrush comes in two pieces; the control handle and the brush head. The brush head pushes on securely to the handle and is easily pulled off to remove when it needs changing. My old electric toothbrush has a round brush head that rotates, but the Oclean Flow Electric Sonic Toothbrush has a narrow head, just like a standard manual toothbrush, and it vibrates rather than rotates.

The first thing to do with the toothbrush is to charge it. It charges via USB and is supplied with a USB-C charging cable (no plug adapter). The toothbrush takes approximately five hours to fully charge and a full charge with give you up to 180 days (just over 25 weeks) on standby – although you shouldn’t have it on standby that long as you should be brushing your teeth daily, not every 6 months! The charging port is located on the bottom of the handle and is covered with a sturdy rubber cover that snaps securely in place to keep water out.

Brushing your teeth is a simple affair, just pick up your brush, add some toothpaste and start brushing. The Oclean Sonic Toothbrush gives you options as it has 5 modes: Morning Mode, Night Mode, Standard Cleaning Mode, Whitening Mode and Gentle Mode.

  • Morning Mode: this is a less intensive mode than night mode with a lower pressure. It can effectively remove dental plaque caused during sleep. Has a brushing intensity of 3 stars.
  • Night Mode: this is a more intensive mode that the morning mode and deeply removes food residues and dental plaque on the teeth, built up during the day, using a higher pressure. Has a brushing intensity of 5 stars.
  • Standard Cleaning Mode: this is somewhere inbetween morning and night modes. Meets the requirements for routine and ordinary cleaning. Has a brushing intensity of 4 stars.
  • Whitening Mode: this is a deep cleaning mode to effectively remove stains caused by smoking, drinking coffee or tea, etc. Helps gives you a whiter and brighter smile. Has a brushing intensity of 4 stars.
  • Gentle Mode: this is for people that have sensitive gums. Helps to protect the health of the gums whilst fulfilling the fundamental function of removing dental plaque. Has a brushing intensity of 2 stars.

Using a toothbrush isn’t difficult, we have all done it since we were young children. Even with five different modes to pick from the Oclean is simple to use and operate. To use it, just power it on and press the button to cycle through the different modes – I have generally been using the morning and night modes, with the occasional whitening mode. Once switched off it remembers the last mode that was used and will start up again in this mode when you switch it back on again. With a 38,000 rpm brush speed it really helps to get your teeth sparkly clean and feeling good.

It is recommended that you brush your teeth for 2 minutes (I’m sure it was 3 minutes when I was growing up), twice a day, brushing each quadrant (upper left, upper right, lower left and lower right for 30 seconds each – the NHS has some advice on tooth brushing). To make sure you are giving each quadrant their full attention, the Ocean Flow Electronic Sonic Toothbrush features a built-in 2 minute timer with a 30 second reminder so that you know when to switch and can brush each quad equally.

Sonic Toothbrush

Overall, I found the Oclean Flow Electric Sonic Toothbrush to be an excellent electric toothbrush. Simple to use and one that really does a brilliant job of cleaning my teeth. As well as brushing teeth, rather than oscillating and rotating, the vibrating action creates movement to remove more plaque build-up for a through clean and even massages the gums to promote blood circulation and healthier gums. The narrower head helps me reach my back teeth easier, so I am confident all my teeth are getting a good clean (my dentist once told me I have the smallest mouth in the world, so this is a good thing).

If you have never used an electric toothbrush before, it does take a bit of getting used to using it. Not only are there the different modes to try out but initially the noise and the power of the vibration are quite different and feel different on your teeth. Once I got used to the different level in power and not using a rotating brush head anymore, I was fine, and this only took a few brushes.

The battery life is very good, and it is very easy and fast to charge via the USB-C cable. It states that it has up to 180 days between charges (standby). Whilst I haven’t left it that long on standby to test those claims as it gets used twice a day, when using it, the battery life will be reduced depending on factors such as how often you brush your teeth, what modes you use etc. and I put it on charge at the end of every week just to make sure that it is always topped up.

Whilst the brush isn’t that expensive at just under £35, replacement brush heads do cost more than a replacement manual toothbrush (a four pack or Oclean Standard Clean replacement heads are £19.99). But they really do an excellent job of through cleaning, so they are worth the cost, especially as the head should be changed around every 3 months, so a pack of 4 brush heads should last a year.

If you care about your teeth, removing and stopping plaque build-up and oral hygiene in general, then the Oclean Flow Electric Sonic Toothbrush is excellent. If you are not sure, check with your dentist at your next check-up and see if a sonic toothbrush would be good for you. The next thing I need to try, as recommended by my dentist, is a water flosser to clean better between my teeth!

I can highly recommend the Oclean Flow Electric Sonic Toothbrush.
