Baseboard Buddy

As I am writing this, I am looking out of the window to a lovely spring day. Spring is in the air with blue skies, leafy trees, flowering plants and the realisation of Spring Cleaning hits home. Time to have a really deep clean after a wet winter. Household cleaning is a chore that a lot of people hate doing, but unfortunately it needs to be done. It can be hard work, sometimes backbreaking work, so we have tools that make things easier for us to go along with the array of cleaning products, dusters and cloths; brushes, brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners, window vacs, steam cleaners etc. For the most part we all manage very well and have nice clean homes. Then there are the skirting boards, they can be a backbreaking, knee crunching pain to dust and clean. Not any more with the Baseboard Buddy!

Skirting boards, baseboards, mopboards, floor moulding, shoe moulding or kickboards. Whatever you call your skirting boards they need cleaning which generally means that it’s a task that involves getting down on your hands and knees, scrubbing away the dust and grime that has accumulated over the weeks, months or year. Now it has become much easier with no need to get down on all fours scrubbing away, and much kinder to your back with the Baseboard Buddy.

Skirting boards collect a lot of dirt and dust and can be awkward to clean. The Baseboard Buddy is a cleaning tool designed to simplify the process of cleaning skirting board, mouldings, coving and door frames – low down or high up. With its long handle and swivelling cleaning head with a microfiber pad, it aims to eliminate the need to stoop or kneel whilst cleaning. The pads are washable and reusable, making it an eco-friendly option for the conscious and thorough cleaner.

The Baseboard Buddy is a very lightweight cleaning stick to help clean those low down or even high up places.

Out of the box it needs some quick assembly. The handles all push on and screw together, the handle then screws onto the head. The cleaning pad pushes on to the head using a hook and loop system (Velcro). Fully assembled it measures 135cm.

The head is adjustable slightly and has 360° swivel action. The cleaning pad measures 4×4” (approx. 10x10cm).

Overall, using the Baseboard Buddy is simple, quick and very effective. It can be used wet or dry to dust or wash skirting boards, door frames and ceiling covings. Just walk and glide. When you push the head with the attached cleaning pad to the skirting board it moulds to the shape so not only cleans the flat edge but the top and any groves. The textured microfibre cleaning pad effortlessly removes and traps dust when used dry. Spray on a little cleaning product of your choice and it cleans and traps the dirt, grime and dust. It really is easy to run it along the skirting without having to get down on all fours with a cloth or scrubbing brush and because it has a long handle there is also no pressure on your back. The adjustable head makes it simple to reach into grooves and intricate mouldings.

I also like that the handle comes in 30cm sections, you can shorten the length, which is perfect if you are tall and doing the ceiling, or wanting to dust or clean a dado rail. You can even use it on blinds.

The pad is slightly larger than the head so it is excellent at conforming to different surfaces and cleans effectively without causing any damage or scratching any woodwork, floors, walls or wallpaper.

I did find that if I went too fast with it, the swivel head would move too much and I would have to go back over it again. Running along the skirtings at a steady and consistent pace works extremely well, it is just finding that right pace. I think I would have liked the screw that adjusts the head up and down to also have the option of locking the head in place when you don’t want the swivel action. It is also a bit flimsy if you have to put any pressure on it to do a hard scrub, but for picking up dust and wiping off dirt and marks it does the job well.

And when the cloths are dirty, they are rinseable / washable, ready to go again.

I think that the Baseboard Buddy is a good cleaning tool that takes the hassle out of cleaning the skirting boards, dado rail, door frames and ceiling coving. And I found it much quicker than using dusters, cloths and brushes.

A worthy investment for anyone looking to ease the burden of household chores and spring cleaning. It’s a good cleaning tool that can save time and spare you from the aches and pains of getting down to floor level to wipe and scrub the skirtings the old-fashioned way.

Happy cleaning!
