smol Multi-Purpose Spray

It’s coming to that time of year again where the house needs more than just a clean but a complete energising refresh. Yes, it’s time for that annual ritual of Spring Cleaning, time to get down and dirty and have a really deep clean and declutter. Spring Cleaning can see us using lots of harsh chemicals that come in single-use plastic bottles, but while you are cleaning out the grime and refreshing the house, why not refresh your cleaning products too and swap for a greener alternative? It’s not just about sparkling surfaces; it’s about reducing waste, cutting harsh chemicals and choosing products that make your home feel healthier while still being just as clean. That’s where smol’s Multi-Purpose Spray steps in: a refill‑tablet cleaning system designed to shrink your plastic footprint while still delivering the satisfying “ah yes, this is actually clean” feeling. Sustainability is great, but only if the stuff actually works and smol’s Multi-Purpose Spray does.

smol’s Multi-Purpose Spray is different from you usual supermarket favourite. While it has a performance that matches leading brands with its powerful cleaning and degreasing action, it ditches the single-use plastics and comes in a 100% recycled plastic or aluminium refillable bottle-for-life and 100% plastic-free refill packs that are posted through your letterbox when needed. As well as its carbon-cutting qualities it also uses fewer chemicals that are parabens and is Vegan and cruelty-free. With its clever approach of using a sturdy, reusable bottle and tiny concentrated tablets that dissolve in water, it is less wasteful than traditional off-the-shelf cleaners but with the same quality of cleaning power.

When purchasing your starter pack (base cost is £2), you choose from a free 100% recycled plastic bottle-for-life or add £3 and upgrade to the recycled aluminium bottle, which in my opinion looks much better. The starter pack comes with your chosen bottle and a refill tablet. It is a subscription model with the refill tablets arriving in a slim letterbox-friendly pack of 6 every 16 weeks with a cost of £7 (postage may apply) and this can be paused or cancelled whenever you want, you are not tied in to a contract.

Multi-Purpose Spray

Once you receive your starter pack, you fill the bottle with 500ml of warm water and drop in the small tablet. This dissolves and then you have a power multi-purpose cleaner for your kitchen worktops and other surfaces.

But does it work?

Yes it does and it does a good job. The spray bottle has a good robust trigger action and the spray will cut through grease and grime, leaving behind a soft citrus scent – it’s not overpowering and doesn’t have a chemical cleaning smell. It’s great for cleaning kitchen counters, tables, tiles as well as general wipe‑downs and cleaning up those inevitable spills. It even works on grease, although it isn’t obliterated on contact the way a heavy‑duty chemical cleaner might manage, it just needs to be left on for a few seconds to soak and in and then give it a quick wipe – job done!

Overall, I found the smol Multi-Purpose Spray to be an effective cleaning solution that cleans with minimal effort, leaving surfaces clean and shiny. It produces no residues or harsh chemical smell, leaving behind an understated citrussy fragrance (some people might prefer a stronger, more noticeable smell, but I prefer the faint odour). And because the formula is vegan, cruelty‑free and designed with fewer unnecessary additives, it aligns neatly with the eco‑friendly ethos without feeling like a compromise.

It is perfect for every day cleaning. If you’re tackling heavy grease, stubborn stains or deep‑cleaning jobs, this spray won’t replace a specialist cleaner (and to be fair, no off the shelf standard cleaner generally won’t either). It’s built for maintenance, not miracles.

You do need to wait for the tablet to dissolve before you can use it, so initially a little patience is required, but it doesn’t take too long and once it has it can be stored away in the cupboard ready for use.

This is a refill subscription system, which after buying the bottle (I have the aluminium bottle and while lightweight, it feels good quality, works wells and looks good) the refill system is cost‑effective in the long run, with refill tablets turning up every 16 weeks in recyclable packaging. It may may feel like a small hurdle for those used to grabbing a cheap bottle off the supermarket shelf but is much better for the environment.

As part of a spring cleaning refresh, smol’s Multi-Purpose Spray hits a sweet spot: sustainable, effective, pleasant to use and genuinely better for reducing plastic waste. It’s the kind of product that quietly improves your routine – no grand gestures, just a cleaner home and a cleaner conscience. For anyone looking to make eco‑friendly swaps that actually stick, this one earns its place in the cupboard.
